2/12/08 Buckeyes sown earlier are now emerging.
The lovely miracle of new life.
"I've loved seeing buckeyes germinating from the first time I saw them. Their huge size, polished mahogany coat, and the rather graphic radicle and cotyledon development is instantly appealing; also nice colors to the developing plant. They also develop above ground which makes them conspicuous, as well as starting growth at a visually "lean" time of year. I always feel a bit of sadness seeing so many starting and realizing that only a very few will actually survive - but like acorns, you wouldn't want them all to grow (especially years like this year)."
