Vernonia angustifolia
ironweed

A robust summer blooming perennial native to the southeastern U. S.. Strong upright habit 3 to 3 1/2 ft. tall by 2 1/2 ft. wide. Blooms midsummer with intense purple flowers in small fluffy heads on leafy stems. A natural with goldenrods and sunflowers for sunny areas with moderate to little water. Butterflies are attracted to the flowers.
