Tricyrtis hirta ‘Tojen’
toad lily

A late summer - fall blooming perennial from shady moist woodlands of Japan. Grows to about 3 ft tall. The particularly large and bright flowers are white, the petal tips and edges washed purply-pink, yellow center, and a light scattering of tiny purple speckles. Rising above the flower, the stigma is a showy star of rosy purple. Toad lilies are not hard to grow, but need some shade, regular moisture and humusy soil to look their best.
