We grow solidagos because they are beautiful as well as tough and adaptable. Preferring full sun, they tolerate many soil types and watering regimes. They thrive on our heavy clay soils with moderate to little summer water. This goldenrod hails from a serpentine meadow in southeastern Pennsylvania. It is compact with grayish-green foliage. Late summer brings clusters of small lemon yellow flowers in a profusion of stout leafy stems 18 inches to 2 ft. tall. A mild mannered perennial spreading slowly from creeping rootstocks.
