Not for the orderly garden, this native often grows in wet ditches and swales where it runs wild. Forms a basal rosette the first year. The second year brings tall flower stalks with a long succession of pale yellow flowers that age to orangey-red. Can grow 3 - 6 ft. or more tall. A great plant to lure birds and insects into the garden. The flowers attract a wide range of pollinators and the seeds are adored by finches and juncos. A notorious reseeder, best used in naturalistic settings where space allows.
Best in full sun with moisture, will tolerate both flooding and drought.
