Muhlenbergia pubescens
soft blue Mexican muhly

From Central Mexico, this handsome grass has downy blue-green foliage growing around 1 ft. tall by 2 ft. wide. Flowers in early summer with upright spikes 1 - 1 1/2 ft. above the blades. The flowers are a pleasing amethyst-blue shade aging to amber. The foliage blushes reddish purple with the first frost and may die back to the ground in hard freezes. Prefers well drained soils and full sun. Deer resistant.
