Melianthus major
honey bush

A beautiful, bold and dramatic evergreen shrub from South Africa. Bluish-green, strongly toothed and divided leaves make a perfect foil to the showy foot long spikes of reddish-brown flowers in spring. Grows rapidly to 6 ft. or more tall and wide. Easy to keep smaller by pruning and benefits from annual trimming back. Sun to light shade. Moderate to occasional water. The nectar in the flowers of honey bush attract Northern orioles. Deer resistant.
