Hierochloe odorata
sweet grass

From the Greek words meaning “sacred grass” the leaves have been used in church festivals and burned like incense by Native Americans. Native to wet sites, this grass is found in Canada, Alaska, eastern U. S., Eurasia, and is rare in California. Grows 18 inches to 2 ft. tall with wide, bright green sweetly fragrant blades. Spreads vigorously-perhaps best grown in containers where it can be controlled and easily kept moist. Deer resistant.
