Eupatorium maculatum
Joe pye weed

Big, beautiful herbaceous perennial native to the Eastern U. S. Forms good size clumps of hollow stems 4 - 9 ft. tall with tiered whorls of leaves. Large domes of mauve pink flowers in summer are attractive to butterflies. The fluffy seeds that follow are favored by gold finches. A striking addition to the border or meadow planting where it performs best with good soil and regular water. Dies back to the ground in winter.
