*Ceanothus thyrsiflorus
blue blossom

One of the larger ceanothus, forming a large shrub or small tree. Shiny, bright green leaves and good sized clusters of light blue flowers in spring. Easy, fast growing. Can be trained into a single trunk if desired. Useful as a specimen tree, background shrub or informal hedge. Drought tolerant when established. Does well in coastal conditions. Shrubby ceanothus provide seeds eaten by bushtits, mockingbirds, quail and finches, as well as cover for birds.
