A hybrid involving a Mexican species and an Eastern U. S. native with lovely results. Strong growing, widely branched shrub with large leaves and large panicles of smokey-blue flowers in early summer. Evergreen in mild climates, deciduous elsewhere, this ceanothus is different from our California native species in that they require more water and flower in summer rather than in the spring. Growing 6 ft. or more tall and wide. Plant in sunny areas with decent drainage and moderate summer water. Can be espaliered.
