California lilac

Not the color of denim, not the purple-blue of Ceanothus 'Dark Star', the profuse springtime blossoms of 'Blue Jeans' are a rich lavender-purple. Erect evergreen shrub 6 ft. tall and wide with small shiny green leaves. Vigorous, fast growing. Best in full sun with little water once established. Tolerates heavy soils. Shrubby ceanothus provide seeds eaten by bushtits, mockingbirds, quail and finches, as well as cover for birds.
