Aspidistra elatior ‘Variegata’
cast-iron plant

Commonly called cast-iron plant for good reason, this evergreen is extremely sturdy and able to tolerate seriously shady conditions. Tough, glossy, dark green lance-shaped leaves grow 1 - 2 1/2 ft. tall and spreads slowly. This form will develop white-striped variegation if the soil is not too rich. Thrives with very little care but grows best in porous soils with moderate to regular water. Will prosper in partial or full shade. An old favorite houseplant for low light situations, Aspidistra is an excellent container plant too, indoors or outdoors.
