Arisarum proboscideum
mouse plant

A curious little rhizomatous perennial for part shade. Forms a low mat of arrow-shaped, glossy, dark green leaves to around 6 inches tall. Intriguing dark purple and white spathes with a long thin curled tip looks like a mouse's tail and flowers in late winter-early spring. Spreads to form colonies 12 inches wide or more. Native to Italy and Spain. Needs part shade with moisture. Goes dormant in late summer at which time no water is needed, and returns with winter rains. Good container plant too.
