Native to woods and forests of California north to Alaska. Foliage is the most prominent feature of this plant with triangular shaped leaves that are dark green above and white woolly beneath. Trackers can detect passers by, seeing the white overturned leaves along the trails edge, hence the common name. Forms a low mound of foliage 8 -12 inches tall with slender flower stems rising to 2 ft. The flowers are tiny and white followed by small narrow seeds. Hardly a show stopper, but an interesting addition to the shade garden where once established will tolerate dry condition
